Many of you may not even know what the ‘Ever Given’ Is

The Ever Given is one of the largest container ships in the world. The ship is owned by Shoei Kisen Kaisha, and is time chartered and operated by container transportation and shipping company Evergreen Marine, headquartered in Luzhu District, Taoyuan City, Taiwan.

It’s the infamous ship that which was stuck in the Suez Canal for almost a week until its owners agreed to pay up to $1 billion in compensation. According to London-based financial firm Revenitiv , the Egyptian state lost transit fees worth $95 million because of the blockage.

This unlocked a myriad of memes surrounding the situation.

As per yesterday, we have been informed that the infamous ship is being detained in Egypt

“The vessel will remain here until investigations are complete and compensation is paid,” said SCA head Lt. Gen. Osama Rabie, according to the Wall Street Journal. “We hope for a speedy agreement [and] the minute they agree to compensation, the vessel will be allowed to move.”
